a).To help students have a better understanding of the great value of the scientific research done by Dr Yuan Longping.
b). To cultivate students’ sense of sympathy and humanism.
2學(xué)情分析
The students are average level in Senior 1. The students have learned in Senior High School for nearly one year. They have grasped a certain vocabulary. But they haven't formed a good habit of reading. So,  in this period the teacher will encourage them to
skim for general idea and scan the further understanding.

Step 1: Lead-in (7m’)
The students’ teaching planning.
1. Let students read and  enjoy a Poem By Li Shen
Farmers weeding at noon,
Sweat down the field soon.
Who knows food on a tray,
Due to their toiling day.
Aim: To make students know that to get the food needs to be worked hard.
2.Ask students some questions:(5 m’)
Did you have breakfast?
If you are hungry ,what will you do?
(show them some pictures)
How are you feeling?
As we all know ,the population in the world is becoming larger and larger . But the land to grow crops is limited. How to feed more people using the limited land is becoming a problem around the world. In China , there is a person who has found out a good method to help the people in the world. Do you know who he is? Today we will read a material to get to know him in detail.
Aim: To let-in the content of this text.
My teaching planning
Step 2: Reading (2m’+ 22m’)
1. First reading (group work and discussion) (2m’)
The students will be given 2 minutes to skim for:
Find out how many paragraphs there are in the text
Aim: To enable students to get a general idea and the organization of the passage.
2. Careful reading (individual work and chart filling) (23m’)
Read the passage carefully and finish the following activities.

Q1: In what way does Dr Yuan look like a farmer?
Q2: What is his achievement?
