Teaching goals 
1. Help Ss accumulate some useful expressions to describe theme parks and the activities in them. 
2. Enable the students to know something about the various theme parks all over the world, to understand the difference between a theme park and a traditional park. 
3. Get Ss learn how to introduce a theme park and how to study in groups.  
 
Teaching important points 
Get Ss learn the three theme parks (Disneyland, Dollywood, Camelot) through autonomous reading and group cooperation. 
 
Teaching difficult points 
Let Ss know how to introduce a theme park and help them understand the difference between a theme park and a traditional park. 
 
Teaching methods 
Skimming;Scanning; Group cooperation; Task-based. 
 
 



Teaching procedures Pre-reading 
 
1. Give Ss a few minutes to say something about parks by asking the following questions: 
Have you ever been to any parks? What did you do there? 
2. Show a video and some pictures of theme parks and get Ss to think about what is a theme park and what’s the difference between a theme park and a traditional park. Then, lead Ss to read the three theme parks presented in the text. 
 



 
  
While-Reading 
1. Fast-reading:enable Ss to grasp the structure and content of the text in general. (1)How many theme parks are mentioned in the passage? What are they? (2) What's the structure of the text? 
         
(3) Where can we usually see this kind of writing? A. In a book.               B. In a tour guidebook.        C. In a newspaper.  
Detailed-reading in groups : get Ss to read for more detailed information about Disneyland, Dollywood and Camelot and train their ability of cooperation as well as the ability of speaking, reading and communicating in English.

1) After their introduction, which theme park do you want to visit? 2) Can you help my friends to choose a suitable park for them? 
A. Lily is interested in the life of ancient people, so she could visit Camelot. B. Jim wants to experience rides, especially the wooden roller coaster, so 
Dollywood is a good place for him. 
C. Jane is a girl who likes fantasy and loves fairy tales very much, so she is 
advised to visit Disneyland. 
D. Kate is crazy about American country music, so she may go to _Dollywood_.   
4. Summary 
    There arevarioustheme parks in the word. You are probably most familiar with Disneyland. To children and adults, it is a  magic worldwhere your dream will come true. It also has so manyattractions that tourism is booming wherever there is a Disneyland. 
    Dollywood, one of the most unique theme parks in the world, features America’s traditional southern cultures. If you are an animal lover, you can go to the world’s largest bald eaglepreserve. 
    And in England’s Camelot Park, you can experience the ancient days and great deedsof ancient people, because everything there ismodelled after Life in 
 



King Auther’s time. There you can see  fighting with swords  or on horseback in jousting area, and learn how ancient England farmerstake care of their animals. 
 
After-reading 
(1) Back to the title “Theme parks-Fun and More Than Fun” Q:What does “fun” refer to here? “more than fun”?    A:“fun”-provide entertainment/amusement;  
“more than fun”-educate people (culture, history…) /help develop tourism…    
   (2) Homework  
Write about a park you have ever been to. Include the following information: 1. Theme   2. attractions/ activities
