1)To develop the students’ reading skills such as skimming and scanning. 2) To enable the students to appreciate an English poem. Moral Objectives
1) To enable the students to make a deeper understanding of mother’s love.
2)To enable the students to be thankful in our life.
Teaching Focus:
To understand the passive voice of the modal verbs and to express whether or not allow to do.
Teaching aids: Multi-Media Blackboard Teaching procedure:
Step1. Lead in
Enjoy a video with students.
Ask:What kind of poeple do they need?Let students guess. Step2. Read and experience
Let students read the poem and then try to find out the same sentence pattern and the rythe.
Help them to summarize the features of the poem. Step3. Think and do
Help students to divide the poem into three parts. Part 1 Mom’s love
Show the two questions to students.
(1)What did the mom do when the writer was a baby and a small child?
(2)What did the mom really give him? Let students make more similar sentences When I was sick, my mom… When I was sad, my mom… When I failed the exam, my mom… When I fought with others, my mom… Part 2 Kid’s misunderstanding Show the two questions to students. (1)Who was right, mom or the boy?
(2)Why do you think the writer talked back to his mom when he was
seven and nine years old? Let students share their stories When I was…,she said….
But I talked back loudly, I should (not) be allowed to… Part 3 Kid’s understanding
Ask:Can you find out the most important word from this part?
Step4 After reading
Show the two questions to students.
(1).After reading the whole poem, how do you think the writer feels about his mom?
(2)What does the title mean?
Tell them to love their moms and respect their moms. Step5 Write
