Ⅰ. Teaching goals: 
1. To let students learn some important words, phrases and sentences through skimming and scanning part. 
2. To improve students’ reading ability through reading activities. 3. To let students express their feelings about hip hop actively. 4. To cultivate students’ awareness of cooperation. 
5. To cultivate students’ awareness of enjoying the beautiful music. 
Ⅱ. Analysis of the students 
The students have learned some knowledge about music. This is a very interesting topic, so the students are enthusiastic about it. In addition, the students in this class are active and like to show themselves. 
Ⅲ. Teaching important and difficult points 
1. How to guide students understand the passage better and actively by using reading skills. 
2. How to let Ss express their own opinion about hip hop by using the words and phrases learned in this passage correctly and actively. Ⅳ. Teaching methods 
Step 1. Review (3 minutes) 
Ask Ss to review the following words and phrases. (To check whether Ss have remembered the important words and phrases.) 
words: movement, technique, improvise, rap, graffiti, microphone, percussion, rapper, 
reggae, turntable, approach,  vocal, decline, emerge phrases: 1. side by side               2.bring sth. with sb.   3. be bored with 
4. take advantage of      5. in decline               6. experiment with 
Step 2. Lead-in (5 minutes) 
讓學生回顧學過的音樂類型，并以電影《舞出我人生》的開場舞導入文章All You Need to Know About Hip Hop. 1. What types of music do you know? 
2. Watch this piece of video and figure out its type of music. Step 3.  Skimming (To get general ideas) (4 minutes) 
Read the passage quickly and answer the following questions: 1. How many parts are there in this passage? 2. What’s the main idea of each part? 
Part 1               A. The big breakthrough 
 
                    
             
                    
                            Part 2               B. The reasons for its success 
Part 3               C. The recording and spread of the rappers’ songs Part 4               D. The definition and origin of hip hop. Guide Ss to summarize reading strategies on how to skim. Tips: key words; subtitles; top sentences. 
Step 4. Scanning (to get the detailed information)(17 minutes) 1. Read Part 1 of the passage again and fill in the blanks.

3. Read Parts 3 and 4 of the passage again and choose the best answers.  1) Why was hip hop so successful?

Step 5. Post-reading：Rational Cloze (6 minutes) 
給學生2-3分鐘的時間，關書完成關于課文大意的語法填空。核對答案后，全班朗讀課文大意。以高考語法填空題的形式再次鞏固了學生對課文內容的理解，同時訓練了學生的答題技巧。  
Hip hop is an American cultural 1._________ (move) which started in the 1970s at block parties in New York, especially in 2.____district called the Bronx. There are four main aspects of hip hop：breakdance and graffiti art plus two types of hip hop music—DJ-ing and rapping. Rapping is also known 3._____MC-ing. There was the
